“…In Xenopus, Drm/Gremlin seems to participate in neural crest induction and patterning (Hsu et al, 1998), whereas in chicken and mouse, it regulates limb bud and lung proximodistal patterning by controlling chondrogenesis, outgrowth, and programmed cell death (Merino et al, 1999;Zuniga et al, 1999;Lu et al, 2001;Shi et al, 2001). However, by comparing the expression pattern of drm in chicken embryo, with those described in Xenopus (Hsu et al, 1998) and mouse (Pearce et al, 1999), we showed significant spaciotemporal differences, which suggested additional roles in different embryonic compartments (Bardot et al, 2001).
