Expression of inflammatory factors and oxidative stress markers in serum of patients with coronary heart disease and correlation with coronary artery calcium score

Abstract: Expression characteristics of inflammatory factors interleukin-23 and interleukin-35; oxidative stress markers of malondialdehyde, which is a final product of lipid peroxidation; superoxide dismutase; microRNA-126 and microRNA-146a in serum of patients with coronary heart disease were investigated. Correlation between these biomarkers and CACS (calcification score), as well as the underlying clinical significance were evaluated. A total of 192 patients diagnosed with coronary heart disease were recruited as th… Show more

“…The mechanism of participation of this miRNA in the process of arterial calcification is poorly understood, but it is believed that it is based on the above-mentioned MAPK/ERK pathway regulation [ 46 ]. The results of our study are consistent with the data of Chen et al, where along with a number of pro-inflammatory markers and miR-146a, a significant increase in the expression of miR126-3p in patients with coronary atherosclerosis and a positive correlation with the level of coronary calcium were found [ 47 ]. In our study, miR-146-5p did not show associations with coronary calcium, and the correlation of this miRNA with a risk of >10% or >7.5% by ACC/AHA is noted at the border of statistical significance ( Table 4 ).…”

“…After an increase in blood pressure, the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) is overactivated, which induces an inflammatory reaction of target organs such as blood vessels, myocardium, and kidney, resulting in the upregulation of inflammatory cytokines. e coronary artery induces vascular endothelial injury, promotes lipids to enter the intima, causes platelet aggregation, and accelerates the growth of plaques [3,[37][38][39]. To further analyze the therapeutic pathways of coupled herbs, we carried out GO and KEGG enrichment analysis on each herbal target.…”

“…In addition, based on the circulating data in literature, it appears that miRNAs can be useful molecular biomarker in the diagnosis and prediction of diseases. Many of the studies have analyzed the expression levels of some of these miRNAs and evaluated their utility as biomarkers of environmentally mediated diseases [170] , [171] , [172] , [173] , [174] , [175] , [176] , [177] , [178] , [179] . Away from the common view with respect to mechanisms of environmental contaminants such as heavy metals and PAH to involve alteration of redox status, perturbation of inflammation and alteration of mitochondrial function, these environmental chemicals may exert their toxic effects through epigenetic mechanisms such as aberrant expression of miRNAs [155] , [180] , [181] , [182] , [178] .…”
