“…Recent studies using DAST investigated students' perception of scientists in different countries and cultures throughout several continents [16][17][18][19][20][21]. Almost all studies confirmed that students have a stereotypical view of scientists where scientists are mainly represented as white males wearing lab coats, eyeglasses, with facial hair, and an eccentric appearance [8,15,16,[22][23][24].…”

“…On the other hand, there is a decline in the pursuit of science careers internationally (Jarvis, et al, 2003;Dewitt et al, 2012). Previous studies reported school students´ attitudes and perception towards science, images of scientists respectively in UK, Korea, Hong Kong, Turkey, Portugal, Israel, Brazil, Greece, US (Newton & Newton, 1992;Matthews, 1996;Choi & Cho, 2002;Fung, 2002;Buldu, 2006;Ozgelen, 2017;Reis et al, 2006;Konflanz & Scheid, 2011;Samaras, 2012;Price, 2017) Other studies referred to pre-service teachers´ perception of science and scientists in Israel ( Rubin et al, 2003;Koren & Bar, 2009). “…It has been suggested that the use of drawings 'speaks a thousand words' and engenders a deeper understanding of , including social and cultural structures and processes (Pink, 2007;Rose, 2012), as, for example, a clinical learning environment. Drawings have also been found helpful in establishing whether stereotypical views exist (Mead and Metreaux,1957;Samaras, Bonoti and Christidou, 2012). Visual methods have been used successfully to record clinical learning by: Spouse (2003), when student nurses drew images of their experiences during the programme; Devine-Wright et al (2009), who used drawings to generate focus-group discussion about participants' understanding of electricity; Guillemin (2004), when exploring women's perceptions of heart disease.…”
