Experimental Stark widths and shifts for spectral lines of neutral and ionized atoms

Abstract: A critical review of the available experimental data on Stark widths and shifts for spectral lines of non-hydrogenic neutral atoms and positive ions has been carried out. The review covers the period from 1983 through the end of 1988 and represents a continuation of earlier critical reviews up to 1982. Data tables containing the selected experimental Stark broadening parameters are presented with estimated accuracies. Guidelines for the accuracy estimates have been developed during the previous reviews and are… Show more

“…The N II line at 424.178 nm (w m = 0.1526 nm/10 23 m −3 ) is used to measure the density of nitrogen plasma jets in our experiment. The uncertainty of the parameter w m for this line is <23% [23].…”

“…Theories that take into account additional effects such as Debye screening [19] and ion dynamics [20][21][22] have predicted Stark broadening of hydrogen Balmer lines in good agreement with experiments. Measurements of Stark broadening of non-hydrogenic spectral lines have also been tabulated for well-defined and independently measured plasma conditions [23,24].…”

“…The experimental data were obtained form various plasma sources with different plasma conditions and with different plasma diagnostic methods. These experimental conditions are summarized in Konjević & Roberts (1976); Konjević et al (1984); Konjević & Wiese (1990); Konjević et al (2002); Lesage (2009 Kusch (1971), which show higher values for He I 3889 (see Fig. 23) and lower values for He I 5016 (results not shown in Fig.…”

“…One can see that our theoretical and the experimental shifts of Rathore et al (1984) are in good agreement, while their experimental widths have a very different behavior with temperature. We note here that in Konjević & Wiese (1990) these experimental results were critically evaluated and an accuracy of ±50% was attributed. Estimates of Stark broadening parameters based on the regularities and systematic trends of Rathore et al (1984) give better results for widths than for shifts where the sign of estimates of Rathore et al (1984) is different from their experimental values and our semiclassical perturbation results.…”
