Experimental Investigation of a Large Scale-oscillating Heat Pipe at Different Inclinations

Abstract: As a family of heat pipes, oscillating heat pipes have many additional unique operating parameters. This paper examined the heat transfer characteristics of an oscillating heat pipe that has an effective length (leff) of 500 mm and uses methanol as the working fluid. The effective length of 500 mm is not typically used in previous experimental setups. This structural dimension of the oscillating heat pipe is widely used as a heat recovery device. The heat pipe was tested with various heat supplies and inclinat… Show more

“…The result stated that after thermal tests, the loop heat pipe improves power and heat transfer-distance significantly without additional energy source (Maydanik et al, 2018). The effect of the heat pipe effective length also affects the velocity of the mass flow rate along the pipe, which also affects the final heat dissipation generated by the CPU (Muhammaddiyah et al, 2018;Winarta et al, 2019). Tan et al (2005) conducted an analytical study of flat plate heat pipe effective length using a point source approach.…”

“…Condensate moves by the principle of capillarity (Putra & Septiadi, 2014). Various types of heat pipe have been investigated, such as Heat Pipe Heat Exchanger (HPHE) and Oscillating Heat Pipe (Muhammaddiyah et al, 2018;Winarta et al, 2019).…”

“…The heat pipe is thus a beneficial device within energy recovery systems (Srimuang & Amatachaya, 2012). Several types of heat pipes have been applied, such as straight heat pipes (Putra et al, 2017), thermosyphon (Jouhara & Merchant, 2012), oscillating heat pipes (Winarta et al, 2019), and a wraparound loop heat pipe (Jouhara & Meskimmon, 2018). An HVAC system with an HPHE installed provides the benefit of acting as heat recovery equipment, mainly when used in the operating room of a hospital (Shabgard et al, 2015).…”
