Comparison of cytokine secretion profiles provoked in mice by glutaraldehyde and formaldehyde

As described previously [37,38], formaldehyde-stimulated LNCs expressed high levels of the TH1-type cytokine IFN-g, but little of the TH2-type products IL-4 or IL-10; a pattern identical to that induced by the reference contact allergen DNCB. Exposure to glutaraldehyde resulted in the converse TH2-type profile, comparable with responses elicited by the reference respiratory sensitizer TMA.…”
