Experimental and numerical crashworthiness investigation of 3D printing carbon fiber reinforced nylon origami tubes

Abstract: In this article, the crashworthiness performance of 3D printed origami tubes with variable thickness and different printing angles are investigated. First, experimental results showed that, compared with the traditional equal thickness origami tubes, the initial peak crushing force of variable thickness origami tubes (VTOT) was reduced by 41% and the specific energy absorption (SEA) had an improvement of 22%.
