“…These eclogitic bodies have been regarded as tectonic blocks with diverse protoliths and metamorphic P T trajectories (Kunugiza et al, 1986;Takasu, 1989;Takasu et al, 1994). In contrast, Wallis and Aoya (2000) proposed that the Seba body and the surrounding schistose basic rocks (Seba eclogite unit) and Iratsu body are two parts of a single eclogite facies nappe at the highest structural levels of the Sanbagawa belt.…”

“…The belt represents the deeper parts of a strongly deformed accretionary complex formed during Cretaceous subduction of oceanic lithosphere at the Eurasian continental margin [e.g., Banno et al, 1986;Takasu and Dallmeyer, 1990;Wallis, 1998;Okamoto et al, 2000]. The highest-grade part of the Sanbagawa belt is exposed in the Besshi area, central Shikoku ( Figure 1a) where it can be divided into the Besshi unit and a series of higher pressure (HP) bodies that have undergone eclogite facies metamorphism [Kunugiza et al, 1986;Takasu, 1989].…”
