Evidence for a utrophin-glycoprotein complex in cultured cell lines and a possible role in cell adhesion

Abstract: Dystrophin, the defective protein in patients with the X-linked muscle wasting disorders Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophies [ 11, is attached to an oligomeric complex which spans the sarcolemma of skeletal muscle 121. The complex is divided into two groups of proteins. The dystroglycan complex is comprised ofthe 43DAG and 156DAG proteins and is found in all tissues. The sarcoglycan complex is found only in skeletal muscle and is comprised of three proteins, SODAG, A3b and 35DAG. Only thc 43DAG protein bi… Show more

“…Increasing evidence indicates that VLCFA synthesis may determine male fertility, by affecting the formation of pollen, anther, or seeds. For example, AtKCS18/FAE1 is the first identified KCS gene in Arabidopsis which is exclusively expressed in seeds, and is involved in the production of lipids used for seed preservation [ 30 , 31 ]. AtKCS2/DAISY , AtKCS9 , AtKCS10/FDH1 , and AtKCS20 have been demonstrated to be involved in synthesizing VLCFAs for cuticular waxes [ 32 ].…”

“…The KCS family in Arabidopsis contains 21 KCS members ( Costaglioli et al, 2005 ; Joubès et al, 2008 ). FAE1/KCS18 is the first identified KCS, which is specifically expressed in seed, and involved in the synthesis of the seed storage lipids ( James et al, 1995 ; Millar and Kunst, 1997 ). KCS2/DAISY , KCS20 , KCS9 , and KCS10/FDH1 are shown to be involved in the synthesis of VLCFAs for cuticular waxes ( Lolle et al, 1997 ; Yephremov et al, 1999 ; Franke et al, 2009 ; Kim et al, 2013 ).…”
