Evidence-based practice implementation in healthcare in China: a living scoping review

Abstract: Background Evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation plays a crucial role in bridging the knowledge-action gaps and reducing health inequities. Little is known about its development in China. This study aims to provide an overview of the EBP implementation research progress in healthcare in China and identify gaps for future studies. Methods We conducted a scoping review following the Joanna Briggs Institute scoping review methodology and the Cochrane Collaboration's guidance on living reviews. We performed … Show more

Besides, we only As depicted in a previous study, leadership support was considered to be the most common facilitator in EBP (Zhao et al, 2022), which applied to five barriers in this study: 'Inadequate environment and resource support', 'Increased workload', 'Professional value perception', 'Organisational culture', and 'Poor knowledge and skill'. Therefore, the smooth implementation and maintenance of EBP mainly depend on departmental leaders' support [ 40 ]. In addition, due to the traditional Chinese culture, Chinese clinical departmental leaders present a centralised form of paternalism, which means that if the head nurse does not agree to conduct or continue to maintain the implementation of EBP, then EBP will not be introduced [ 41 ].…”

“…The heterogeneity in clinical care provision can potentially jeopardize the quality and safety of care for the patients, and inequity in access to standard healthcare. Knowledge dissemination, monitoring utilization and evaluation of the effects after knowledge application are paramount in successful implementation of evidence in improving clinical management [13]. All too often implementation was unsuccessful or not sustained due to various barriers in the implementation process [14].…”
