For the study of soil erosion it is important to set up the experiments well. In the experimental design one of the key factors is the choice of the measurement device. This is especially important when one part of the erosion process needs to be isolated, such as for splash erosion. Therefore, the main aim of this research is to list the general characteristics of the commonly used splash erosion devices and to discuss the performance, to be able to relate them, and make suggestions regarding their use. The devices we selected for this comparative comparison were: the splash cup, funnel, Morgan tray, Tübingen cup, tower, and the gutter. The devices were tested under the same conditions (rainfall characteristics, slope, and soil type) to assess their hydrological response under different intensities of simulated rainfall. All devices were installed on a sloping plot (10°) with sandy soil, and were exposed to 10 min. of simulated rain with intensities ranging from 60 to 172 mm/h to measure the splashed sediment, and to describe problems and differences among them. The results showed that the Tübingen cup was the best performing device to measure kinetic energy of the rain, but, because of its design, it is not possible to measure the detached splashed sediment under natural (field) conditions. On the other hand, the funnel device showed a significant relation with rain intensity because it loses little sediment to washing. In addition, the device is easy to use and cheap. Therefore, this device is highly recommended to estimated splash erosion. to the good performance measuring the actual splash erosion, because it loses little sediment by washing. The device is also cheap and easy to install and manage.

Several environmental impact assessments (EIAs) have been conducted since the petroleum ındustry environmental guidelines and standards were issued in 1991. Thus, EIA has become a standard practice in environmental planning for various project operations and activities. However, studies indicate that little has been achieved regarding environmental management in Iraq's oil industries. The reason for this is the reluctance of institutions to adopt environmental management systems, either due to the scarcity of basic information through which environmental impacts are measured, or the lack of financial allocations to implement mitigation measures and control plans, or the lack of human resources and the lack of political commitment to implementing environmental management plans .This research aims to assess the environmental impact of the East Baghdad field in the Midland Oil Company, by identifying a number of indicators that have been selected in proportion to the nature of the company's work. A rapid impact assessment matrix was used, which includes a set of components (physical and chemical, environmental and biological, social and cultural, economic and operational) and for each component a set of sub-indicators that ultimately indicate the environmental degree of environmental impact. Accordingly, the research reached a group of results, the most important of which is the presence of serious negative environmental impacts in the field site and the operations and activities related to it, such as soil and air pollution, obsolescence of equipment and scarcity of technology with a percentage of 70.8%, while the positive effects amounted to 25% only, which predicts an environmental deterioration in the company's work sites.

This study integrated the rapid impact assessment matrix (RIAM) analysis and the mathematical sustainability modeling to evaluate disposal options so as to find the most appropriate and practical unmitigated option for the main waste disposal site in Tehran, Iran. RIAM analysis was used to assess environmental impacts of five potential disposal options followed by determination of sustainability for each option. RIAM analysis results indicated that option 5 (i.e., composting) had the least negative cumulative impacts on the environmental score value of -481 among the studied options. Incineration of wastes, option 4, was found to be the least favorable option mainly due to the high relevant costs and emission of air pollutants. Option 3, sanitary landfilling, was found to have fewer negative impacts compared to the options 1 (open dumping), 2 (land burial), and 4. It was also found that none of the examined options were sustainable in unmitigated state; however, results indicated that option 5 was the most favorable one in terms of sustainability with an obtained sustainable value of -0.126, which was the lowest value of unsustainability found in the present study. Calculated values of environment for the evaluated options in unmitigated state were not sufficient enough to compensate for the corresponding values of human needs and interests. Finally, option 5 followed by option 3 were suggested as alternative disposal approaches for the current methods in unmitigated state to reduce negative environmental impacts of waste disposal.
