“…Circulatory tumor markers for OSCC were investigated in various studies (12 -21) and showed relatively moderate sensitivity and specificity values with relation to diagnosis, prognosis predicting, or treatment monitoring. For example, Kurokawa et al analyzed circulatory carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), SCC, immunosuppressive acidic protein, and Cyfra concentrations in OSCC patients and found sensitivity and accuracy values of 81% and 77.8%, respectively, and when they analyzed CEA, SCC, and immunosuppressive acidic protein, the values were 69% and 90.3%, respectively (22,23). “…These serpins possess uncleaved signal sequences and are considered members of a branch of the serpin family called "Ov-serpins" because of their relatedness to the well-studied secreted chicken serpin ovalbumin (Remold-O'Donnell 1993). PAI-2 is found both extracellularly in a glycosylated form and intracellularly in a nonglycosylated form, and SCCA1 is secreted by squamous cell carcinomas (Wohlwend et al 1987;Ye et al 1988;von Heijne et al 1991;Kurokawa et al 1993). Another study analysed serum levels of CEA, SCCA, IAP, AFP, FER and CA 19-9 in patients with primary OSCC (Kurokawa et al, 1993).
