Daylighting design has become prevalent in modern buildings in the effort to create a more sustainable living environment. Past and recent bodies of research emerged are mainly focused on the different methods of predicting and measuring daylight level and various range of daylighting technologies available. Despite a wide range of developed and commercially available daylighting systems have been reported, their applications have been limited by a lack of studies on their utilisations and high initial costs. Computer simulations have been frequently used in the past to investigate daylighting performance due to reliable and accurate predictions. However, additional simulation time and variable level of skills and knowledge required are major drawback of computer simulations. This paper includes and pools information on all major daylighting design topic in the built environment. The study critically reviews and compares daylighting design principles, strengths and weaknesses of different range of daylighting systems and calculation methods, such as, scale model with artificial sky, full scale model for field measurement, numerical modelling and manual calculation procedures with the aid of diagrams or tables. Such information could be of useful for engineers, researchers and designers to assess the suitability of applying these systems and technologies in different building types and examine the potential of energy and cost savings.

The purpose of this paper is to provide a review of developments in Korea in relation to its energy consumption and sustainable development policies and progress in achieving its energy targets as given by the Building Energy Codes. Building insulation and passive building technologies are also reviewed for achieving passive house standards by 2017 and zero-energy or near zero-energy buildings (nZEB) by 2025 in Korea, and to identify strategies to further reduce usage of primary energy and to achieve energy efficiency targets. A defining feature of a sustainable building is its ability to reduce significantly its environmental impacts and its embodied energy and greenhouse gas emissions over its whole life, including use of natural resources and releases of pollutants, to promote reuse and recycling of materials and sustainable development of buildings whilst ensuring the building satisfy the indoor environmental quality requirements for occupants. Passive technologies include the use of natural ventilation, energy storage such as using phase change materials (PCM) and high thermal mass structure, high energy efficiency windows and lighting and maximizing daylighting and use of renewable energy technologies. Technologies for refurbishment of building envelopes, windows and ventilation systems are reviewed to improve and upgrade the energy efficiency of existing buildings as well as focusing on new builds. The various options for heating, ventilating, cooling and air-conditioning of buildings are also discussed. Green Buildings and Energy Efficiency Labels and Standards should have a pertinent role to affect energy efficiency measures in building developments.

El objetivo de este experimento es estudiar el efecto de la distribución de la luz en modelos a escala de un aula real debido a diferentes bandejas de luz. La construcción de maquetas de un aula del TEC Campus Tecnológico Local San José se llevó a cabo tomando como variable de control el color del techo y manteniendo su forma. Para los casos de estudio, se analizó el comportamiento de las bandejas de luz para medir la distribución de la luz natural proveniente de la ventana hacia los espacios más alejados de la misma, así como su efectividad como protección solar. Se analizaron tres franjas horarias, mañana, mediodía y tarde, de diciembre de 2018 a enero de 2019, tomando medidas de iluminación fuera y dentro de la maqueta. Las variables analizadas se pueden resumir en: color del techo, forma de las bandejas de luz y color aplicado a las paredes y superficies del aula. De los resultados obtenidos se concluye que aún existen grandes lagunas en el entendimiento de cómo lograr una distribución uniforme de la iluminación dentro de una sala, evitando altos contrastes visuales, esto es especialmente importante en un aula donde se debe dar una prioridad en el comodidad visual de sus usuarios. El uso específico de bandejas de luz plana se mostró efectivo tanto como elemento de protección solar como para redirigir la luz a espacios alejados de la ventana.
