Change to Corneal Morphology after Refractive Surgery (Myopic Laser In Situ Keratomileusis) as Viewed with a Confocal Microscope

“…Therefore, such an improvement found in previous studies could be due to a reversal of lens-induced polymegethism after cessation of contact lens wear rather than a direct effect of LASIK. Pérez-Santonja et al 21 also found no improvement in patients who did not wear contact lenses preoperatively, which is in agreement with the results found in the present report. It is possible that differences in the extent of reported changes to the endothelium that cannot be attributed to the aftereffects of contact lens wear may relate to different levels of surgical trauma during the LASIK procedure (e.g., microkeratome type and technique; trauma induced during flap replacement).…”
