Evaluation and Drivers of Green Agricultural Water Use Efficiency in Yangtze River Economic Zone

Abstract: The efficient use of agricultural water is the key for Yangtze River Economic Zone (YREZ) to realize ecological green development. Taking the panel data on 11 YREZ regions in 2011-2018 as the object, this paper establishes an evaluation indicator system for green agricultural water use efficiency (GAWUE) containing undesired output, and adopts the epsilon-based measure (EBM) model to evaluate YREZ’s GAWUE. After analyzing the regional differences in YREZ’s GAWUE, the Tobit model was introduced to verify the dr… Show more

“…e livestock and poultry pollution in these regions has also been actively controlled by prohibitory policies. However, agricultural nonpoint source pollution, which is caused by intensive agrochemical input in agricultural production activities, contributes to declining water quality and aquatic ecosystems [2] and has long been a difficulty in governance because it is dispersed, concealed, random, ubiquitous, and difficult to detect [3,4]. As a result, agricultural nonpoint source pollution becomes a major pollution source of the rural environment in water source regions [5,6].…”

“…Against this backdrop, it is imminent to promote the sustainable development of agriculture. To coordinate the development between agricultural growth, resource utilization, and eco-environmental protection, it is of great significance to include the pollutants generated in agricultural production into the analysis framework of agricultural environmental efficiency (AEE) and adopt scientific measures to evaluate the current AEE level of China [1][2][3].…”
