The objective of this work is to analyze, through environmental vulnerability (EV), disturbances in the environment caused by anthropic activities for the production of energy resources, focusing on the power generation sector. Methodologically, hydrocarbons (oil and gas) and solar are considered through a qualitative and quantitative analysis of environmental impacts, including the research in Environmental Impact Studies and procedures like EIA/RIMA (institutional Environmental Impact Reports in Brazil). This study focuses on operation and demobilization of offshore drilling activity, and installation and operation of the Santos Basin pre-salt oil and gas production and disposal activity Stages 1, 2, and 3. The criteria addressed in the EIA/RIMAs are used, focusing on those that correlate with EV and the production of electricity. Impacts for long-term, permanent, partially reversible, or irreversible disturbances are filtered, totaling 53 impacts (31 effective/21 potential). We concluded that the criteria and methodologies of EIAs vary between stages. At times, the variation is so drastic that the same impact can have a completely different rating from one stage to another, despite referring to the same area. This condition makes it impossible to define a single vulnerability index for the pre-salt venture. For a final analysis, we propose a cleaner energy production through distributed photovoltaic systems as a more adequate alternative for São Paulo’s energy supply in terms of its impact on EV.

As one of the rapidly-developing mega cities in China, Hangzhou has experienced great land use change during the past three decades. By analyzing land use change in designated period, it is beneficial to understand urbanization process in Hangzhou, and undertake further urban management and urban planning. In this study, the land use change from 1990 to 2017 in Hangzhou urban area was detected by a method of supervised classification with Landsat TM images from 1990, 1997, 2004, 2010 and 2017, and analyzed by a Markov matrix. The results show that from 1990 to 2017, a great deal of rural areas transformed into built up areas in the Hangzhou urban area. Consequently, the urban area of Hangzhou increased eight times over the period from 1990 to 2017. This may imply that such a change should be directly related to the Chinese government policy, of which the main factor is rapidly-developing urbanization in China, such as in Hangzhou. Thus, it is believed that China’s land use change is going to be small in the following decades. This may indicate that China’s urban construction is slowing down, while its urban planning is being shifted from construction to management.

This paper comprehensively used three methods to explore the global and local impact mechanism of socioeconomic on ecosystem services value in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, which included principal component analysis (PAC), ordinary least square (OLS) and geographic weighted regression (GWR). The results suggested that, the primary industry related factors were the main socioeconomic factors, while factors such as the second industry, the third industry, the fiscal revenue and so on, had little effect on it. Socioeconomic factors can affect or change the value of ecosystem services to a certain extent. The comprehensive factor of primary industry had a negative effect, and the negative effect of the total population factor was weaker than the comprehensive factor, meanwhile, the effect of the simplification factor of the primary industry was positive or negative. The local model of a PCA-GWR can better solve the spatial non-stationarity of the dependent and the independent variables, and the local model was better than the global model of OLS and PCA-OLS. A standard GWR model can be further improved to reflect the local differences of the impact mechanism in more detail.
