ObjectivesWe previously demonstrated the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) using a self‐check sheet for patients with nocturia in a randomized controlled study. Additionally, we investigated the efficacy of the intervention in real‐world clinical practice.MethodsTwo hundred forty‐three outpatients with complaint of nocturia who practiced CBT for 4 weeks using a self‐check sheet were included in this trial, which took place from April 2021 to March 2022 in 20 institutions.ResultsOf the 243 patients, 215 who achieved 50% or more of the behavioral therapy tasks were included in the analysis. Their mean age ± SD was 77.1 ± 7.7. A significant decrease was observed in nighttime frequency at 4 weeks after CBT using self‐check sheets (pre 3.3 and post 2.8, p < .001). Nighttime frequency was decreased one or more times and was defined as treatment success in 102 patients (47.4%). Pretreatment nighttime frequency in the treatment‐success group was significantly higher than that of the failure group (3.5 ± 1.0 vs. 3.2 ± 1.0, p = .013). In multivariate logistic regression analysis, predictive factors of treatment success were pretreatment nocturnal frequency of four or more (odds ratio [OR] 1.82, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01–3.30; p = .046) and the absence of diabetes mellitus (OR 3.08, 95% CI 1.34–7.06; p = .008).ConclusionsCBT using a self‐check sheet requiring less time, less labor, less cost, and less medication is very beneficial for both patients and medical staff in real‐world clinical practice.

Introduction. The main question of the surgeon in the postoperative period is the possibilities of assessing the function of the lower urinary tract. Symptomatic assessment of urination disorders does not allow to diagnose since many symptoms are subjective and non-specific for a particular disease. Urodynamic study allows to assess the state of the urinary system and determine further tactics. Methods and materials. The study included 173 patients with morphologically verified cervical cancer IB1-IIB stages who underwent radical hysterectomy (RH). The main group consisted of 26 patients after RH type С1 using the water-jet technique. The comparison group A included 79 patients who underwent RH type С1 with the traditional technique. The comparison group B included 52 patients who accepted radical hysterectomy RH type C2. All patients underwent uroflowmetry at the preoperative and postoperative stages in order to exclude dysfunction of the lower urinary tract. Results. In a comparative study of the parameters of uroflowmetry before surgery and 2 months after surgical treatment in patients of the main group, significant differences were obtained in such parameters as the average and maximum velocity of urine flow. In control group A, statistically significant differences were obtained in such parameters as the average urine flow rate, maximum urine flow rate, urine flow time, and the volume of residual urine. In control group B, all indicators had significant differences, with the exception of the volume of urine excreted. Conclusion. Comparative results before surgery and 2 months after surgical treatment in the main group indicate the advantage of the water jet dissection technique as the most precise and nerve-sparing method.

Background Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are prevalent and distressing concerns for women worldwide. The prevalence of LUTS reaches the first peak during pregnancy and postnatal period. However, less attention has been paid to LUTS around childbirth and little progress has been made in the prevention of LUTS. Understanding the epidemiological characteristics of LUTS around childbirth would inform decision making for health care providers and perinatal women in the prevention of LUTS. The study aims to investigate the epidemiological trends and associated risk factors related to LUTS around childbirth. Methods Pregnant women were consecutively enrolled during pregnancy in the obstetrical wards of a tertiary hospital and followed up at 6–8 weeks and one year postpartum through a prospective design. Urinary incontinence was assessed with the International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form. Other symptoms were measured with questions based on definitions of the International Incontinence Society. Multiple logistic regression was used to examine the risk factors for LUTS including urinary incontinence, increased daytime frequency, nocturia and urgency. The report followed the STROBE statement. Results A total of 1243 pregnant women participated in this study. The prevalence of at least one type of storage symptoms was 94%, 55% and 35% in late pregnancy, at 6–8 weeks and one year postpartum, respectively. The prevalence of urinary incontinence remained at 21% within one year postpartum. The majority of the participants suffered from mild to moderate urinary incontinence. Age, job, BMI before pregnancy, gestational diabetes mellitus, urinary tract infection history, previous history of LUTS, age at first birth and birth mode were predictors of LUTS one year postpartum. Conclusion LUTS were highly prevalent during pregnancy and postnatal period. The prevalence of urinary incontinence was more stable than that of other LUTS within one year postpartum. Women aged more than 35 years, engaging in manual work, with gestational diabetes mellitus, with a history of urinary tract infection and LUTS, with advanced age at first birth and vaginal delivery were more likely to suffer from LUTS postpartum. The findings provided a novel and deep insight into the epidemiological trends and related risk factors of LUTS around childbirth.
