Purpose: To evaluate the effect of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) on vision-related quality of life in children. Methods: The Children's Visual Function Questionnaire (CVFQ), an instrument that evaluates vision-related quality of life in children, was used. It is divided into 6 subscales: General Health, Vision Health, Competence, Personality, Family Impact, and Treatment. The sample consisted of parents of premature children up to 3 years of age who had ROP and no neurological damage (ROP group) and parents of premature children up to 3 years of age who had normal vision and absence of other diseases (control group). Results: There were 88 subjects in total, 43 in the ROP group and 45 in the control group. The ROP group had lower scores on the CVFQ than the control group. The Total Index and all CVFQ subscale scores and for were significant lower in the ROP group than in the control group. The ROP group was divided according to the severity of the disease. The Total Index, Vision Health, and Competence scores in children with more severe ROP were significantly lower than those in children with less severe ROP. Conclusion: ROP was shown to have a negative effect on vision-related quality of life in children.

Objective:The study's goal has been to identify studies addressing the effects of violence against women during pregnancy to both the fetus and newborn. Methods: The survey was performed in both MEDLINE and LILACS databases. There were included analytical studies, published in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Results: There were included 27 studies. According to the analyzed data, violence during pregnancy is a risk to the intrauterine growth and may cause the following issues: intrauterine growth restriction; being born small according to the gestational age; and higher plasma levels of glutamate, GABA and cortisol. It was consensus among the studies that there is a risk of fetal and neonatal death among women who experienced the phenomenon of violence during pregnancy. Conclusions: Violence during pregnancy is a very important issue in the public health matter. The findings emphasize the significance of initiating the prenatal care as soon as possible, since it is an important stepping-stone to tracking down the occurrence of violence. RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar estudos sobre os efeitos para o feto e recém-nascido da violência contra a mulher durante a gestação. Métodos: Revisão realizada nas bases MEDLINE e LILACS. Foram incluídos estudos epidemiológicos analíticos, publicados em inglês, espanhol e português. Resultados: Foram incluídos 27 estudos. Os dados apontam na direção de que a violência na gravidez é risco para a ocorrência de restrição no crescimento intrauterino, nascer pequeno para idade gestacional e maiores níveis plasmáticos de Glutamato, GABA e cortisol. Foi consenso entre os estudos o risco de óbito fetal e neonatal entre as mulheres que vivenciaram o fenômeno da violência no período gestacional. Conclusão: A violência durante a gestação constitui um agravo relevante na saúde pública. Os achados destacam a importância da realização e inicio precoce do pré-natal, pois constitui um espaço importante no rastreamento das violências. NascimeNto iB et al. 264Rev assoc med Objective: To identify the changes caused by dyslipidemia and obesity in pregnancy suggesting causes for premature birth, and the prognosis for the newborn. Method: Systematic review based on the Medline, Lilacs, Embase and Cochrane library databases between 1996 and 2016. The search for studies included the following keywords: "dyslipidemia, pregnancy, obesity, preterm birth." A protocol was programmed and a protocol for inclusion/exclusion of studies was implemented. Results: Of the 5,789 articles initially selected between March 1996 and July 2016, only 32 were in accordance with the established criteria. Of these, 28.12% discussed risk factors of prematurity; 37.50%, metabolic alterations and gestational dyslipidemia; 21.87%, dyslipidemic complications in preterm birth; and 12,50%, lipid metabolism, glycemic and placental transfer. Conclusion:There is a reduced adaptation of obese pregnant women to the metabolic changes of gestation. This favors dyslipidemic intercurrences in the mother, which, directly or indirectly, suggests the occurrence of premature births and high lipid transfer to the fetus. Therefore, preterm newborns, whose mothers were dyslipidemic during pregnancy, have greater risk of epicardial fat, both in early (first year of life) and in later (adult) phases of life.
