Abstract: ABSTRACT. Entropy estimation in Muscina stabulans (Fallén) (Diptera, Muscidae) under laboratory conditions. Entropy (H) as a concept in demography was adapted from that of physics to quantify the impact of mortality on life expectancy and to quantitatively demonstrate mortality tendencies in experimental populations. Entropy was estimated for 160 pairs of Muscina stabulans (Fallén, 1817) in a climate-controlled chamber (24.8ºC ± 0.6ºC, relative humidity 70 -80%, 12 h photophase). Both sexes had H values interm… Show more

“…The M. domestica larvae were kept under the same conditions as the M. stabulans larvae, until they reached the second larval instar when they were considered to be prey. The larval instars were based on previous studies of the biology of the species (Krüger & Erthal 2006;Mascarini & Prado 2002;Zimmer et al 2006), and the confirmation based in morphological characters (Skidmore 1985).…”

“…Revista Brasileira de Entomologia http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0085-56262013000100009 Due to their importance in livestock, Muscina stabulans (Fallén, 1817) and Musca domestica L. are among the muscid species with the best known biology and ecology (Axtell & Arends 1990;Mascarini & Prado 2002;Krüger & Erthal 2006;Krüger et al 2010).…”

“…Among these species for the analysis of survival, M. stabulans males and females have an mean time very similar to males and females of S. nudiseta. These two species display a strong tendency for mortality to occur in more advanced ages, at the fulfillment of more than 75% of the reproductive function (KRÜGER & ERTHAL, 2006;KRÜGER et al, 2008).…”
