Estimation of Levetiracetam in Tablet Dosage Form by RP‐HPLC

Abstract: A simple, precise, rapid and accurate reverse phase HPLC method developed for the estimation of levetiracetam in tablet dosage form. A Sun Fire C18, 250 x 4.6 mm, 5 μm partical size, with mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and 0.03 M potassium dihydrogen phosphate (pH adjusted to 3.0 with orthophosphoric acid) in the ratio of 15:85 v/v was used. The flow rate was 1 mL /min and the effluents were monitored at 210 nm. The retention time was 5.53 min. The detector response was linear in the concentration of … Show more

“…A literature survey revealed various methods for determining BBL and MTK in biological uids or in pharmaceutical dosage forms, such as HPLC methods [10][11][12][13][14][15][16], TLC methods [15], [17], spectrophotometric methods [18][19][20][21][22][23], and spectro uorimetric methods [24]. In this study, our goal is to develop a sustainable, green, simple, selective, rapid, and validated HPLC method for the simultaneous determination of BBL and MTK in their combined dosage form and dissolution media, which is typically time-consuming in routine analysis.…”

“…BMB and MTK are present in combined tablet formulations with a pharmaceutical ratio of 1 : 1 to treat chronic asthma, bronchospasm and reversible airway obstruction. The literature includes different methods for simultaneous analysis of BMB and MTK, such as HPLC [ 30 , 34 ] and spectrophotometry [ 35 , 36 ]. The reported methods suffered from using hazardous toxic solvents such as acetonitrile and methanol [ 34 – 36 ] in addition to long runs up to 20 min [ 30 ].…”

“…The precise mechanism by which levetiracetam exerts its antiepileptic effect is unknown. Literature survey reveals that various HPLC [2][3][4][5][6][7] and LC-MS [8][9][10] methods have been reported for the determination of levetiracetam in pure and pharmaceutical dosage forms. In this study a simple, rapid, accurate, sensitive and precise HPLC method was developed for the estimation of levetiracetam in pharmaceutical formulations.…”
