The plants commonly known as morning glory belong to the genera Ipomoea and Merremia and are among the most important weeds in Brazil. Greenhouse studies were conducted in 2016/2017 to compare the susceptibility of different morning glory species-Ipomoea quamoclit, I. nil, I. hederifolia, I. triloba, Merremia aegyptia, and M. cissoides to soil-applied herbicides and to evaluate the effectiveness of these herbicides after periods of drought. In the first experiment, to evaluate the efficacy of each herbicide at pre-emergence stage, a fully randomized 6 (doses) x 6 (species) factorial experimental design with six replicates was used. The herbicides tebuthiuron (3,200; 1,600; 800; 400; 200 and 0.0 g a.i ha-1), amicarbazone (2,100; 1,050; 750; 375; 187 and 0.0 g a.i ha-1), sulfentrazone (1,200; 600; 300; 150 75 and 0.0 g a.i ha-1), mesotrione (240; 120; 60; 30; 15 and 0.0 g a.i ha-1), saflufenacil (200; 100; 50; 25; 12 and 0.0 g a.i ha-1), and imazapic (360; 180; 90; 45; 22 and 0.0 g a.i ha-1) were applied. Ipomoea hederifolia, I. nil, and I. quamoclit were most susceptible to saflufenacil; I. triloba and M. cissoides were most susceptible to tebuthiuron; and M. aegyptia was most susceptible to amicarbazone. Therefore, the best herbicide treatment depends on the species of morning glory. In the second experiment, to determine the effectiveness of herbicides after periods of drought, the treatments were arranged, for each herbicide, in a fully randomized 6 x 5 factorial design with four replicates, six species of morning glory, and five sowing times after periods of drought (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 days after application (DAA) of the herbicides) relative to the application of the amicarbazone (1,050 g a.i ha-1), imazapic (180 g a.i ha-1), mesotrione (120 g a.i ha-1), saflufenacil (100 g a.i ha-1), sulfentrazone (600 g a.i ha-1), and tebuthiuron (1,600 g a.i ha-1). Herbicide effectiveness after periods of drought began to decrease after 15 days for saflufenacil; 30 days for imazapic, mesotrione, and tebuthiuron; 45 days for amicarbazone; and 60 days for sulfentrazone. Preemergence application of amicarbazone and sulfentrazone exhibited consistent efficacy during the drought periods, satisfactorily controlling the species of morning glory.

The use of adjuvants associated with herbicides aims at improving the performance of application and the consequent increase in the biological effect of the treatment. However, the sequence of product added to the sprayer tank can influence the phytosanitary spray solution. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the control of Senna obtusifolia as a function of the sequence of addition of the herbicide aminopyralid + fluroxypyr and adjuvants in the preparation of spray solution. Two herbicide doses (1 and 2 L c.p. ha-1) associated with the adjuvants mineral oil (MO), silicone polyether copolymer (SIL), and a mixture of phosphatidylcholine and propionic acid (LEC), all in the proportion of 0.3% v v-1, with alternate addition to the spray solution to evaluate the effects of the preparation sequence. The spray solution volume considered was 150 L ha-1. Evaluations of spray solution stability were performed from the visual evaluation of homogeneity, electrical conductivity, and pH. The effect of treatment on S. obtusifolia control was measured using a scoring scale and dry matter. Correlation coefficients between the evaluations were also determined. No difference of the preparation sequence of spray solution was observed for stability, pH, and electrical conductivity, but an influence was observed on S. obtusifolia control, without changing dry matter accumulation. The treatment with the adjuvant LEC previously added to the herbicide provided a higher control rate at the highest dose, while the adjuvant SIL had the opposite effect.

Efficacy and selectivity of associations of PPO and photosystem II inhibitor herbicides applied in post-transplant of pre-sprouted sugarcane seedlingsWeeds compete directly and indirectly with the sugarcane crop, harming production. In this way, controlling these weeds is of great importance to achieve high productivity. The chemical management of weeds is one of the most efficient methods, however, depending on how the herbicides are applied, they can cause damage to the crop. Therefore, knowing the phytotoxic effect that the application of herbicides can cause in pre-sprouted seedlings is necessary. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness and selectivity of associations of protox and photosynthema II inhibitor herbicides in post-transplant of pre-sprouted sugarcane seedlings, when compared with other associations of herbicides practiced by sugarcane producers. Two projects were carried out, the first one in a greenhouse, following a completely randomized design, with four replications and a 10 x 2 factorial scheme, where the first factor corresponded to the treatments (control; (sulfentrazone + diuron) (525.0 + 1050.0); (sulfentrazone + diuron) (700.0 + 1400.0); (sulfentrazone + diuron) (875.0 + 1750.0); (sulfentrazone + diuron) + mesotrione (700.0 + 1400.0 + 120.0); diclosulan + tebuthiuron + ametryn (70.6 + 750.0 + 1500.0); diclosulan + s-metolachlor + ametryn (70.6 + 2400.0 + 1500.0); 2.4-D (1005.0) for dicots and metribuzin (1920.0) for monocots; MSMA + ametryn (1185.0 + 1500.0) and flumioxazin + tebuthiuron (125.0 + 750.0), doses in g a.i. ha -1 ) and the second at two application times (post-initial (2 to 4 leaves/1 to 2 tillers) and late post (6 to 8 leaves/3 to 4 tillers)). This scheme was carried out in 11 independent experiments, one for each weed studied (Luffa aegyptiaca; Ipomoea hederifolia; Merremia aegyptia; Ricinus communis; Momordica charantia; Mucuna aterrima; Digitaria nuda; Rottboellia exaltata; Brachiaria plantaginea; Brachiaria decumbens and Panicum maximum) . The sampling units were composed of 3.0 L pots filled with sandy-clay soil and the weeds were sown according to the company's recommendation. After sowing the weeds, the pots were kept in a greenhouse with irrigation. When the weeds reached the necessary phenological stages, application was carried out with a costal sprayer pressurized with CO2. Control assessments were performed at 7; 14; 21; 28; 35 and 42 days after application (DAA), following the visual rating scale proposed by ALAM (1974). At 42 DAA, shoot dry mass was evaluated, cutting the remaining plants close to the ground, placing them in paper bags and taking them to an air circulation oven until they reached constant weight. The data obtained were analyzed by the F Test at 5.0% and, when significant, by the Scott-Knott Test also at 5.0%.
