Epigenetic modifications of human placenta associated with preterm birth: a systematic review

Abstract: Studies reported various associations between specific epigenetic findings and PTB, although methodological concerns limited results' validity. Additional high quality studies are needed to assess the repeatability of these findings. The STROBE guidelines can be used to improve the quality of reporting.

“…On the other hand, excessive stress reduced the recovery process with deteriorated symptoms. Concentration of immoderate mechanical stress may induce fatigue fractures or periprosthetic fractures [27]. Similarly, optimal mechanical stimulation was suggested to impede osteoarthritis progression, while increased stress may exacerbate osteoarthritis in contract [28].…”

“…1). The scarcely available literature explains these pregnancy-associated conditions as a result of foetal epigenetics modifications, thus limiting or leading to aberrant expression of several genes including those involved in cell growth, inflammation, oxidative stress, D-glucose metabolism, among others [6,7]. The use of techniques such as wide-genome arrays and bisulfite pyrosequencing are allowing fast forward identification of foetal epigenetic modifications.…”

“…It mainly involves insulin resistance in these individuals. Additionally, it also involves a gut-microbiota interaction, the “cross-talk.” It deals with preterm birth itself 47) , infant neurodevelopment 48 49) , and pulmonary outcomes 50) . It also confers definite inflammatory traits in the intestine in preterm infants, and can result in high susceptibility to NEC.…”
