Epidemiologie und Prognose der Hepatitis Non A, Non B

Abstract: The frequency of non-A, non-B hepatitis (n = 325) was determined among all cases (n = 1368) of acute viral hepatitis observed in the Hannover are abetwen 1975 and 1978. Hepatitis A was excluded by demonstration of anti-HAV-IgM, hepatitis B by demonstration of HBs antigen or an isolated occurrence of anti-HBc at the beginning of the disease. Non-A, non-B hepatitis occurred predominantly in adults and showed no seasonal variability. As a consequence of results of followup investigations in 174 hepatitis patients… Show more

“…This type of hepatitis has been termed non-A, non-B hepatitis (1). However, hepatitis of the non-A, non-B type has recently also been shown to represent a considerable proportion of sporadic acute virus hepatitis in several studies from urban areas in different parts of the world including Scandinavia (1,(5)(6)(7)(8). The diagnosis of this 'new' form of viral hepatitis is therefore at present based on serological exclusion of hepatitis A and B and of those rarer cases of hepatitis caused by other the most important cause of post-transfusion hepatitis and are apparently responsible for 80%-90% of such cases (3,4).…”

“…As shown by Müller et al [11], transfusion is by no means the predominating source of NANB hepatitis. Drug abuse, hospital infection and unknown routes are other causes.…”
