Abstract: CC chemokine receptor 3 (CCR3), the sole receptor for eotaxins, is expressed on eosinophils and T helper type 2 (Th2) cells. In Hodgkin's disease, eotaxin-1 secreted by fibroblasts collects Th2 cells and eosinophils within the tissue. Similarly, many Th2 cells infiltrate the lesional skin of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). In this study, we investigated the role of eotaxins in the development of the Th2 environment of CTCL. We revealed that fibroblasts from lesional skin of CTCL expressed higher amounts of e… Show more

“…4A). We have reported that expression levels of CCL26 and CCR3 are increased in lesional skin of advanced CTCL compared with normal controls (29,35,36). Thus, when disease progresses, production of AMPs in CTCL lesional skin, which is abundant in T H 2 cytokines and chemokines, decreases.…”

“…25 Expression of CCR3 and its ligands CCL11 and CCL26 has been reported in CTCL. 26,27 In addition to CTCL, CCL18 up-regulation has been described in B-cell leukemia 15 and in gastric and ovarian cancer. 16,28 The expression of CCL18 by CD68 Ï© macrophages in the tumor invasion front was first described in gastric cancer.…”

“…Depending on the subtype of CTCL and the stage of the disease, these malignant T cells can express the chemokine receptors CXCR4, CCR4, CCR10, and CCR3. 6,33 The respective ligands CXCL12, 23 CCL17, 7 CCL27, 34 CCL11, 26 and CCL26 27 have been described in CTCL lesional skin and can mediate maintenance of the malignant cells in the skin. Expression of CCL18 by macrophages in PEP, MF patch or plaque stage, and the tumor invasion front of MF lesions might mediate an inhibitory function by abrogating the proliferative effect of other chemokines in CTCL.…”

“…It has been shown that CCR3 is preferentially expressed in vitro by Th-2 cells 12 . Further, the lesional skin of CTCL at advanced stages contains more eotaxin-3 and CCR3 mRNA as compared with that of early CTCL 23 , and that study also showed that CCR3 lymphocytes were present in the lesional skin of CTCL. It is likely that the CCR3 lymphocytes were induced to migrate into lesional skin by eotaxins, as there was significant correlation between the eotaxin-3 and CCR3 expressions in the lesional skin of CTCL 23 .…”

“…As mentioned above, eotaxins and CCR3 interaction regulate the Th2-dominant tumor environment, which is closely related to the development of CTCL 23 . It has been shown that CCR3 is preferentially expressed in vitro by Th-2 cells 12 .…”
