Environmentally Stable Super Water‐Repellent Poly(alkylpyrrole) Films

“…Superhydrophobic surfaces have recently attracted much attention from both scientific and application points of view. [1][2][3] The wettability of solid surfaces with liquids is governed by two factors: chemical and geometrical. [4] The chemical factor determines the contact angle (CA) of a liquid on a flat surface and the geometrical (roughness) factor enhances the wetting property for a hydrophilic surface (or non-wetting for a hydrophobic surface).…”

“…The films were obtained by electrochemical polymerization of alkylpyrrole and are stable to temperature, organic solvents and oils. The surface of the film is a fractal and consists of an array of perpendicular needle-like structures (Yan et al, 2005). Our group reported a Pt nanowire array superhydrophobic surface on a Ti/Si substrate by utilizing electrodeposition of Pt into the pores of anodic aluminium oxide templates and surface fluorination.…”

“…For example, the introduction of ammonium or imidazolium moieties could lead to a surface with switchable wettability by anion exchange. [20][21][22][23] The surface morphology is highly dependent on the structure of the monomer and electrochemical parameters. [18][19] Hopefully, conducting polymers can be electrochemically deposited by electropolymerization, leading to polymer films with various surface morphologies.…”

“…[18][19] Hopefully, conducting polymers can be electrochemically deposited by electropolymerization, leading to polymer films with various surface morphologies. [20][21][22][23] The surface morphology is highly dependent on the structure of the monomer and electrochemical parameters. Structured polyaniline and polypyrrole films with switchable wettability from superhydrophobic to superhydrophilic were reported by electrodeposition in presence of perfluorinated doping anions.…”
