ABSTRACT:The studies carried out throughout the world have indicated that there are differences between environmental attitudes and environmentally responsible behaviors of undergraduate students. In what ways the environmental attitudes and behaviors of the students who will protect and manage the resources of the country in the future have changed is an important issue? This study was aimed at determining the environmental attitudes and environmentally responsible behaviors of the undergraduate students of Abant Ýzzet Baysal University toward environmental issues. In addition, the effects of the faculty in which the students are enrolled, locality and gender on the determined environmental attitudes and environmentally responsible behaviors of the students were investigated. The data were gathered from 507 students in 2005. To explain the environmental attitudes and environmentally responsible behaviors of undergraduate students toward environmental issues, factor analysis was used with Varimax Rotation method. To determine the changes of the environmental attitudes and environmentally responsible behaviors of the students with regard to the faculty, locality and gender, one-way analysis of variance was used. According to the results, students highly support the environmental attitudes and highly participate only in consumerism behaviors. Finally, it was determined if faculty and gender had an effect on the environmental attitudes and behaviors of the students.

The paper examined the relationship between individual background (sex, age and social class) and the level of awareness, knowledge and practices of solid waste management in PortHarcourt city residents. It defines solid waste management as the process of collecting, storing, treatment and disposal of solid wastes in such a way that they are harmless to humans, plants, animals, the ecology and the environment generally. The objective of this research is to ascertain the relationship between individual background (sex, age and social class) and the level of awareness, knowledge and practices of solid waste management in Port-Harcourt city residents. The research question addressed the extent of relationship between individual background (sex, age and social class) and the level of awareness, knowledge and practices of solid waste management in Port-Harcourt city residents. This research is based on Ajzen (1991) theory of planned behaviour which states that attitude towards behaviour, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control, has influence in predicting the behavioural intention and actual behaviour of individuals when participatory decisions are voluntary and under an individual control. The research assumes that the background (sex, age and social class) of Port-Harcourt city residents influences their attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control thus determining the behavioural intention/actual behaviour i.e. level of awareness, knowledge and practices of solid waste management. 800 Port-Harcourt city residents were randomly surveyed from the two local government areas of the city (Port-Harcourt city and Obio/Akpor LGAs) using structured questionnaire. Data collected were subjected to percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and chi-square statistical analyses. Findings revealed that Port-Harcourt city residents from the sampled zones are aware of solid waste management problems in their environment but possessed poor waste management practices. The study showed that the propensity for solid waste management practices differed by background (sex, social class and age) of residents. Significant relationships were observed between respondents' sex, age and social class and their level of awareness, knowledge and practices of solid waste management. This research therefore recommends among others: sensitization of Port-Harcourt city residents on the dangers of poor solid waste management, provision of near-by solid waste collection points, enactment of waste management laws with stiffer penalties on offenders, establishment of solid waste recycling plants, effective monitoring of waste contractors, provision of more waste evacuation equipment, provision of more solid waste dump sites and effective monitoring of monthly clean-up activities.

Den här artikeln handlar om studenters kritiska självreflektion. Utgångspunkten är att de former av kritiskt tänkande som vi traditionellt odlar inom högskolan är otillräckliga när det gäller vår tids kritiska frågor, som exempelvis klimatfrågan. När det rör sig om komplexa och värdeladdade frågor där många perspektiv kan vara giltiga har vi att förhålla oss till olika mänsk liga mekanismer som på olika vis hindrar oss från att tänka och agera klokt, exempelvis polarisering, bekräftelsebias, glapp mellan tanke och handling och olika former av legitimeringsstrategier för att låta blir att ta ansvar. Här diskuteras sådana hinder och hur vi kan förhålla oss till dem i högre utbildning.Nyckelord: Självreflektion, kritiskt tänkande, värdefrågor, klimatfrågor, topos Självständigt och kritiskt tänkande är ideal som betonas inom akademin. Det finns delade meningar om vad det betyder och hur det ska befordras (för översikter se Bohlin, Ullholm & Wolrath-Söderberg, 2007;Brodin, 2007;Wolrath Söderberg, 2012). Ett skäl till att det är så viktigt är förstås att det är nödvändiga förmågor i vetenskapligt arbete, men vi föreställer oss nog att det är lika viktigt i arbetslivet och medborgarskapet. Ett annat relevant begrepp som ofta lyfts fram apropå medborgarskapet är medborgerlig bildning (Burman, 2011;Strandbrink et al., 2011). Henrik Bohlin definierar det som "ett systematiskt arbete för att utveckla förmågan att tänka kritiskt och självständigt även i värdefrågor och inte som annars enbart i vetenskapliga frågor -inte ett förmedlande av en fördefinierad värdegrund, utan en träning i moraliskt övervägande och praktisk klokhet" (Bohlin, 2011). Som pedagogisk utvecklare tänker jag att alla utbildningar på ett eller annat vis syftar till praktisk klokhet eller fronesis som Aristoteles kallade det (Aristoteles, Retoriken). Studenten ska under utbildningen utveckla de förmågor som behövs för att navigera med sin fackkunskap på ett kritiskt, omdömesgillt och ansvarsfullt sätt i en föränderlig verklighet. Det inkluderar även sådant som analytisk förmåga, civilkurage och integritet. Den här artikeln handlar om en speciell och underbetonad dimension i medborgarskapet och den praktiska klokheten, nämligen den kritiska självreflektionen. Jag diskuterar varför den är viktig, hur den kan förstås och vad som hindrar den. Till sist diskuterar jag också hur den kan befordras pedagogiskt inom ramen för ämnesundervisning. För att göra det tydligt tar jag utgångspunkt i en av vår tids viktigaste samhällsutmaningar -klimatet -och börjar med ett exempel som gäller mig själv.
