Abstract: Enhanced levels of extracellular polygalacturonase activity were obtained when Aspergillus niger NRRL‐364 was grown on pectic substances as sole carbon sources in a submerged culture. Among the factors affecting enzyme production those of carbon source concentration, nitrogen source, initial pH and time of cultivation were found to be the most important ones.
