Abstract: The role of oxidation injury as an important factor in the pathophysiology of cardiomyopathy (CMP) has recently gained increasing interest. Semiquantitative analysis for isoprostane, 8-epi-prostaglandin F 2a (8-epi-PGF 2a ), and oxidised low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) of coronary vascular tissue samples derived from CMP patients revealed an increased extent and intensity of uptake as compared to the respective controls. To evaluate oxidative stress in vivo, we examined plasma, serum, salivary, and urinary 8-… Show more

“…Radical peroxidation of AA produces a family of prostaglandin F 2 -isomers called F 2 -isoprostanes ( 39 ). One such F 2 -isoprostane is 8-epi-PGF 2 ␣ , a sensitive and independent risk marker for CAD (40)(41)(42) that is probably released into biological fl uids through a phospholipase-mediated pathway and consequently excreted in urine. Here, we found a positive correlation between serum phospholipid AA and urinary excretion of 8-epi-PGF 2 ␣ in both controls and CAD patients.…”

“…Wolfman et al reported a significant negative correlation between 8-isoprostane level and LVEF in patients with chronic heart failure, 36 and Mobert et al 37 reported that 8-isoprostane induced a concentration-dependent decrease in coronary flow; alterations in coronary flow were associated with a parallel reduction of LV pressure and dP/dt (max). 8-isoprostane is a potent vasoconstrictor, [38][39][40] an effect that may contribute to enhanced peripheral vascular tone and have a negative influence on coronary arterial and intracardiac microvascular blood flow, thus leading to depressed cardiac functional capacity in acute KD patients.…”

“…21 Four studies found that plasma levels of 8-epi-PGF 2a were significantly higher in CAD patients compared with healthy volunteers. 20,27,29 Note that none of these studies applied multivariable analysis to control confounding (Table 1).…”
