Enhanced luminol–O2 chemiluminescence reaction by CuO nanoparticles as oxidase mimics and its application for determination of ceftazidime

Abstract: A cursory survey of the literature shows that although peroxidase-like activity is a well-known and well-applied property of CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs), the oxidase-like activity of CuO NPs is a property that is somehow neglected to be incorporated in analytical applications.

“…The change of electrons from the excited state to the ground state releases energy, causing light emission at 425 nm. Although CL is a flash phenomenon in the millisecond time scale,[6b,16] the use of thin Au nanoplates and TCEP continuously supplies oxygen singlet to the CL reaction, enabling a stable long‐term emission. This is of importance to monitor chemical reactions or use detection systems that require sufficient reaction or processing time.…”

“… 2 It is also used in the empirical therapy of febrile neutropenia in combination with other antibiotics. 3 The analysis of ceftazidime is performed by HPLC, 4 UV/Vis, 5 GC/MS, 6–9 LC/MS, 10,11 IR, 12 LC/MS/MS, 13 capillary electrophoresis, 14–16 and chemiluminescence 17 in biological samples. Recently, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have been widely used as drug carriers due to their size, shape, and magnetic field.…”
