Endostatin as a Mediator Between Endothelial Function and Cognitive Performance in Those at Risk for Vascular Cognitive Impairment

Abstract: Background: Patients with coronary artery disease have an increased risk for developing vascular cognitive impairment. Endothelial function is often diminished and has been associated with lower cognitive performance in these patients. The link between endothelial function and cognition in coronary artery disease is not fully understood. Angiogenesis may play a role in mediating the association between endothelial function and cognition since angiogenic processes rely heavily on the endothelium. Objective: The… Show more

“…Moreover, ED is an early feature of cerebral small vessel disease, which has prognostic significance for cerebrovascular disease in vascular event recurrence and vascular cognitive impairment 31 . Therefore, the occurrence of PSCI may be closely related to ED 32 .In our study, we explored the correlation between ED after MIS and cognitive impairment at 3 months, and found RHI was an independent factor affecting the occurrence of PSCI. At the same time, the area under the curve for the diagnosis of PSCI is more than 0.7, and it also has high sensitivity and specificity.…”

“…A key role of endostatin in angiogenesis is preventing endothelial cell multiplication, migration, binding, and survival ( Dhanabal et al, 1999 ; Dixelius et al, 2000 ). Endostatin, but not vascular endothelial growth factor was found to mediate a relationship between endothelial function and cognitive performance in patients with coronary artery disease ( Isaacs-Trepanier et al, 2020 ). Activated endothelial cells up-regulate the expression of adhesion molecules and selectins.…”
