Abstract: The decidual cell reaction (DCR) of ovariectomized mice treated with hormones and stimulated by the intrauterine injection of oil was investigated to obtain information about the control of uterine sensitivity during implantation. Three factors were studied; oestrogen given at the time of oestrus, progesterone and oestrogen given at the time of the nidatory surge. For the induction of the DCR by oil both 'oestrous' oestrogen and 'nidatory surge' oestrogen were essential, whereas neither were necessary for the t… Show more

“…Repeated injections of oestradiol on the days before peanut oil stimulation do not interfere with uterine sensitivity -the uterus does not become refractory or non-receptive as postulated by Psychoyos (1963) and Finn (1966). Any delay in injection of progesterone also prevents decidualization, perhaps because of rapid utilization of this hormone in the mouse.…”

“…The intraluminal instillation of arachis oil was chosen to induce decidualization in the hormonetreated uterus of the ovariectomized laboratory mouse (Finn, 1966 All uteri were examined under low magnification ( 6-25) to define the position of post-partum uterine meso¬ metrial nodules in relation to areas of decidual tissue. Decidual tissue was visible as opaque swellings along the length of the horn in cleared uteri.…”
