Enbucrilate as Cartilage Adhesive in Augmentation Rhinoplasty

Abstract: Enbucrilate (Histoacryl) as a cartilage adhesive in augmentation rhinoplasty was used in 39 cases. The unique properties of this tissue adhesive enhances the ability to augment the nose during cosmetic and reconstructive rhinoplasty. Enbucrilate i nteracts superbly well with local tissues, causing no systemic or local untoward effects. Its main attribute stems from its ability to bond cartilage instantaneously and with great reliability, which allows for intricate fabrication of cartilage implant oomponents. F… Show more

“…In rhinoplasty, the use of Histoacryl as a tissue adhesive has resulted in satisfactory connection to surrounding tissues and cosmetic results without local or systemic infection, toxic reactions, or foreign body reactions. 6 In Asians, the amount of septal cartilage is usually less than that found in white patients. Our results indicate that nasal tip rhinoplasty using octyl-2-cyanoacrylate allows more effective grafting of a small amount of cartilage.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…2 Autologous grafts comprising cartilage, bone, dermis, and osseocartilaginous composites are preferable because of their superior biocompatibility and effectiveness. 22-26 However, autologous grafts are associated with high rates of reabsorption and complications at the donor site, and few reports have addressed the long-term outcomes of implantation with these materials. 27-33 No optimal strategy exists for augmentation rhinoplasty, and the choice of implant material and technique currently must be customized to the patient (Table 3).…”

“…Furthermore, in a septum incised too deeply, filling the scoring incisions with 2-OCA maintains the cartilage integrity. 14 CA tissue adhesive is easily applied, biocompatible, and bioresorbable and has many uses in otolaryngology, including cartilage grafting in rhinoplasty, [17][18][19][20] ossicular reconstruction, 21,22 and laryngeal repair. 23 CA includes methylcyanoacrylate, ethylcyanoacrylate, isobutylcyanoacrylate, and butylcyanoacrylate.…”

“…17,[25][26][27][28][29] Many clinical studies have demonstrated that CA adhesive is effective and safe in various surgeries. 14,[17][18][19][30][31][32] However, a few studies reported negative effects on the cartilage. Toriumi et al 33 reported that butyl-2CA increased inflammation and caused a foreign body giant cell response when CA was applied to the subdermal plane in rabbit ears.…”
