Electrodeposition of Gold on Lignocelluloses and Graphite-Based Composite Paper Electrodes for Superior Electrical Properties

Abstract: Graphite-based composites are commonly used as an anode and current collector for energy storage devices; however, they have inherently limited potential for large scale rechargeable systems due to a brittle structure. In this study, flexible and light-weight graphite-based electrodes are prepared by incorporation of lignocelluloses fibers directly collected from a self-growing plant, Typha Angistifolia. Electrical properties of graphite and lignocelluloses composite sheets are enhanced by electrodeposition of… Show more

“…Because electrodeposition is only applicable for conductive substrates, it is generally combined with other approaches such as dip‐coating, mixing, ELD, or carbonization to further improve the conductivity and capacitance of paper/fabric electrodes for flexible SCs. A wide variety of conductive materials including metals (e.g., gold), [ 175 ] metal hydroxides or oxides (e.g., Co(OH) 2 , [ 176 ] MnO 2 , [ 177 ] Mn 3 O 4 ), [ 178 ] and conductive polymers (e.g., PPy, [ 179 ] PEDOT:PSS) [ 160 ] have been electrodeposited on conductive paper/fabrics. For example, a cellulose paper was first dip‐coated with CNTs and then electrodeposited with MnO 2 to manufacture hybrid SC electrodes.…”

“…Bismuth electrodes have been demonstrated for heavy metal detection by electrodeposition on flexible polyimide after surface modification by reduced graphene oxide and carbon nanotube composites [ 71 ] and by electroplating onto inkjet-printed electrodes on polyester [ 72 ]. Gold electrodes for a variety of applications have been deposited on flexible substrates by e-beam evaporation [ 73 , 74 ], inkjet printing [ 75 , 76 ], and electrodeposition [ 77 ].…”

“…AuNPs have been electrodeposited from a potassium cyanoaurate (III) solution on lignocellulose/graphite composite sheets included in an electrochemical cell. 30 In this paper we propose for the first time the electrodeposition of AuNPs on paper electrodes based on carbon ink, using very small volumes of the plating solution. We have used screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) as support and connection for the paper-based electrode, that acts as the working electrode of the electrochemical cell.…”
