Electrochemically Exfoliated Black Phosphorus Nanosheets – Prospective Field Emitters

Abstract: Herein we report field emission (FE) investigations on an electrochemically exfoliated few-layered black phosphorus nanosheet emitter at a base pressure of approximately 1 ϫ 10 -8 mbar. The turn-on electric field required to draw an emission current density of approximately 10 μA/cm 2 is found to be about 4.2 V/μm. Furthermore, few-layered black phosphorus nanosheet emitters deliver an emission current density of about 170 μA/cm 2 at an applied field of about 7.5 V/ CSIR-

“…In 2015, Erande et al carried out the electrochemical exfoliation of bulk BP in an aqueous solution of 0.5 m Na 2 SO 4 . The intercalation of sulfate ions led to few‐layer BP sheets with dimensions of 5–10 µm . Similarly, in 2017, Ambrosi et al presented an anodic intercalation method to delaminate bulk BP crystals to few‐layer‐thick BP nanosheets in 0.5 m sulfuric acid .…”

“…The intercala tion of sulfate ions led to fewlayer BP sheets with dimensions of 5-10 µm. [56] Similarly, in 2017, Ambrosi et al presented an anodic intercalation method to delaminate bulk BP crystals to fewlayerthick BP nanosheets in 0.5 m sulfuric acid. [57] How ever, the exfoliated sheets by these methods have a high density of functional groups, according to the strong oxidation peak in Xray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra.…”

“…[67] Recently, this approach has been extended to the synthesis of other 2D TMDs, [54] transition-metal oxides, [66] graphitic carbon nitrides, [66] and phosphorenes. [68] Figure 2i llustrates the features of anodic electrochemical exfoliation by using the synthesis of graphene as an example.
