In a recent study of surgeon awareness of potential damage from electrocautery, 12 a survey showed that about 78% of surgeons when asked if they perform electrocautery on patients after the final components are implanted said they use electrocautery while only 38% stated that they use electrocautery during revision surgery while the implants are still placed.
