Electro-oxidation of 1-amino-9,10-anthraquinone and O-phenylenediamine and the Influence of Its Copolymerizaton in the Modified Electrode Properties

Abstract: Poly(1-amino-9,10-anthraquinone-co-o-phenylenediamine) (P1AAQ-co-POPD) was synthesized by electrochemical methods on stainless steel electrodes (SS) using equal monomer concentration in acetonitrile/acidified water mixture as solvent. Electrochemical characterization allows, among others, determining the characteristic redox couple potential of the quinone group, which is one of the advantages of having achieved the copolymerization. FTRaman, ATR and UV-Vis characterization confirms the formation of the copoly… Show more

“…Phenylenediamines are bifunctional monomers that can undergo branching/crosslinking when homopolymerized/ copolymerized with other monomers. 17 Copolymers of o-phenylenediamine with aniline, 18 2,3-xylidine, 19 o-aminophenol, 20 o-anisidine, 21 o-methoxyaniline, 22 o-toluidine, 23 and 1-amino-9,10-anthraquinone 24 are well documented. Poly(carbazole) (PCz) has been rigorously investigated for its optoelectronic properties which are applicable in hole transporting devices.…”

“…Electrochemical synthesis has been widely reported for copolymerization of o-phenylenediamine with aniline, 22 o-aminophenol, 23 o-anisidine, 24 o-toluidine, 25 m-toluidine 26 and 1-amino 9,10-anthraquinone. 27 Scant work has been reported on the copolymerization of 1-naphthylamine with aniline and its derivatives 28 while no work has been reported on the copolymerization of 1-naphthylamine with o-phenylenediamine and o-anisidine via microwave synthesis.…”
