Elastic stabilisation of proximal humeral fractures with a new percutaneous angular stable fixation device (ButtonFix®): a preliminary report

Abstract: The ButtonFix(®) system represents a valuable tool in the treatment of proximal humeral fractures with results indicating fewer complications compared to prior percutaneous fixation devices. Moreover, the ButtonFix(®) seems to be able to maintain reduction even in elderly patients with potentially reduced bone mass.

“…AVN was observed in 7% of each group. Preliminary results using a modification of the HB were presented by Joeckel et al [46]. In this technique, angular locking stability of four 2.5-mm K-wires is achieved within a polyetheretherketone (PEEK) plate, which is positioned at the lateral shaft cortex instead of the HB using an aiming device.…”

“…Yazar tarafından yaşlılarda kullanılması önerilmekle beraber, yeni bir yöntem olması nedeni ile yeterli çalışma yoktur. [40] Humerus block tespit yöntemi, yukarda anlatılan Button-fix benzeri bir yöntemdir (Şekil 10). Metafize oturan platform şafta giden vidadan oluşmaktadır.…”

“…It is generally accepted that overly rigid constructs can prevent callus formation and bone healing, while controlled micromovement at the fracture site can stimulate callus formation [4,5]. With semi-rigid implants like the Humerus-Block [6-9], Humerus-Block NG [10] and Button-Fix [11] (all DePuy Synthes, Solothurn, CH), an attempt was made to overcome over-stiffening of the fracture xation. Several studies have described the use of external xation as a semi-rigid, minimally invasive alternative for proximal humerus fracture xation using a variety of systems and surgical techniques [12][13][14][15].…”
