Elastic Kirchhoff migration of vectorial wave-fields

Abstract: Based on Kuo and Dai's vectorial wave-fi eld extrapolation equations, we derive new Kirchhoff migration equations by introducing unit vectors which represent the ray directions at the imaging points of the refl ected P-and PS converted-waves. Furthermore, using the slope of the events on shot records and a ray racing procedure, mirror-image refl ection points are found and the refl ection data are smeared along the Fresnel zone. The migration method proposed in this paper solves two troublesome imaging problem… Show more

“…Elastic Kirchhoff migration (Kuo and Dai, 1984;Hokstad, 2000;Du and Hou, 2008) uses the generalization of the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral as the main migration engine for vector (multicomponent) wavefield extrapolation. The key step is to calculate the PP and PS traveltimes, which are used for summing imaging amplitudes.…”
