Elastic, Conductive, Polymeric Hydrogels and Sponges

Abstract: As a result of inherent rigidity of the conjugated macromolecular chains resulted from the delocalized π-electron system along the polymer backbone, it has been a huge challenge to make conducting polymer hydrogels elastic by far. Herein elastic and conductive polypyrrole hydrogels with only conducting polymer as the continuous phase have been simply synthesized in the indispensable conditions of 1) mixed solvent, 2) deficient oxidant, and 3) monthly secondary growth. The elastic mechanism and oxidative polyme… Show more

“…However, conductive biomaterials for ECPs have proven to attain a better performance for the functionalization of cardiomyocytes, including for the maturation of the myocardium and for synchronous contraction. [13,[37][38][39] The synchronous contraction ability is mainly based on the expression of cardiac-specific proteins. One such specific cardiac markers is α-actinin, which has been connected to the maturation of the myocardium and regulation of muscle contractions.…”

“…concentrated polyaniline (PANI) solutions tend to gelatinize with time. Since then, the preparation of conducting polymer hydrogels has been intensively investigated in the past decade, involving cross-linking with chemical bonds or physical nodes (crystallites or aggregates) [27][28][29][30][31]. Besides, conducting polymer hydrogels can also be prepared by incorporating of conducting polymers with the host hydrogel matrix [32,33].…”

“…Conducting polymer hydrogels (CPHs) are another unique types of hydrogels that are employed chemical industries, implants of electrochemical biosensors, and for electro-stimulated drug release [172]. CPHs have the ability as conductive flexible electrodes for supercapacitor purpose [173], also it is used in bioelectronics, server as energy storage devices and biosensors of glucose enzymes with high sensitivity [174].…”
