“…[3c, 13] Before we started working in this area, only three bora[1]ferrocenophanes were known (C; Figure 1); the BN(SiMe 3 ) 2 -bridged species showed with 32.4(2)8 the largest a tilt angle of all known FCPs (D; Figure 1). These three boron-bridged [1]FCPs could be polymerized thermally, but the resulting materials were insoluble in organic solvents, and this chemistry came to a halt.…”

“…This value is comparable to that for previously reported [2]boraarenophanes [14] but significantly smaller than that for highly strained [1]boraferrocenophanes. [15] Especially in the case of Si-bridged ansa complexes, the oxidative addition of the bridging SiÀC bond to late transition metals has led to very interesting heterodinuclear complexes, which are key intermediates of the metal-catalyzed ringopening polymerization (ROP) of such metallocenophanes. [16] Extending this reactivity pattern to B-bridged metallocenophanes would be highly desirable, for example, to provide an alternative to the commonly applied thermally induced ROP, which unfortunately fails in the case of thermally labile complexes.…”

“…[16] Extending this reactivity pattern to B-bridged metallocenophanes would be highly desirable, for example, to provide an alternative to the commonly applied thermally induced ROP, which unfortunately fails in the case of thermally labile complexes. [14,15] The corresponding oxidative addition of a [1]borametallocenophane, however, is precluded by the strength of the BÀC bond, which significantly exceeds that of a Si À C linkage. [17] Moreover, the reversed reaction, that is, the reductive elimination of BÀC bonds from late transitionmetal centers, is thermodynamically favorable and is known to be a key step in metal-catalyzed hydroboration.…”
