A hepatozoonose canina é uma hemoparasitose que é transmitido ao cão por meio da ingestão de carrapatos contendo as formas patogênicas. Duas espécies são incriminadas pela doença: o Hepatozoon canis e o Hepatozoon americanum, sendo, no Brasil, a prevalência dessa segunda espécie ainda desconhecida. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo relatar um caso de infecção por Hepatozoon spp com acometimento dos sistemas nervoso central, muscular e reprodutivo. Foi atendida uma cadela SRD, adulta, com queixa principal de aborto, que evoluiu para febre intermitente, miosite e sinais neurológicos característicos de encefalite. Nos exames laboratoriais foram encontrados anemia, leucocitose, hiperglobulinemia, e observadas inclusões em leucócitos compatíveis com Hepatozoon spp, confirmado por PCR. O tratamento inicial foi instituído com doxiciclina e diproprionato de imidocarb. Posteriormente, acrescentou-se clindamicina, sulfametoxazol e trimetropima, com melhora dos sinais clínicos até a recuperação. Dessa forma, suspeita se tratar de um caso de H. americanum ou de uma nova sintomatologia causada por H. canis. Conclui-se que é necessário que sejam realizados identificação das espécies ditribuídas na região.
