Efficient near‐IR sensitization of nanocrystalline TiO2 films by zinc and aluminum phthalocyanines

“…Among the studied MOCPcs the Zn complex showed the highest conversion effi ciency and incident photon-to-current conversion effi ciency when compared to the Si-and Al-containing metallophthalocyanines. Such tendency was also found in earlier sensitization studies comparing Pcs or porphyrins with different central metals [20,27]. In a recent report, a low effi ciency despite suppressed aggregation was also reported for the sensitization of TiO 2 by a sterically hindered unsymmetric Pc [26] and explained by a small driving force for electron injection from the In view of the high APCE observed in our study indicating facile injection of an electron from the excited state of the sensitizer into the conduction band of ZnO and in view of the facile kinetics of sensitizer regeneration, we assign the low values of the conversion effi ciency to the present measurement geometry in a three-electrode cell with a crude non-optimized redox electrolyte chosen for the sake of good comparison of the different electrode materials.…”
