Efficient Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of Ionic Esterified Amino Acids

Abstract: In this work, an efficient microwave-assisted methodology for the esterification of unprotected α-amino acids is described. Ionic esterified amino acids were synthesized in satisfactory yields in a facile one-pot solventless protocol from unprotected amino acids and alcohols under acid catalysis (MsOH or p-TsOH) to afford the pure products after a simple work-up procedure. This procedure can also be extended to the preparation of long and short chain alkyl and benzyl esters.

“…Nevertheless, crude oils must be conditionned by removal of water and salts before further refining. Hence, the potential of aminoacid based ILs as demulsifiers of O/W emulsions was probed to break an emulsion from heavy crude oil [73]. The aforementioned O/W emulsions were prepared using alkyl-Oglucoside and-cellobioside biosurfactants [74].…”

“…The surfactants synthesized in our laboratory are low toxicity ionic surfactants obtained from glycine, alanine and tryptophan amino acids under microwave irradiation under solvent-free conditions (green synthesis) as described previously [21]. The structures of the surfactants synthesized and evaluated in this work are presented in Fig.…”

“…Using microwave irradiation to carry out reactions is a growing popularity and hence becoming an attractive method for chemical synthesis . It involves neat reactants to be exposed to microwave irradiation so as to acquire greater selectivity and achieve high yields within a short reaction time and with ease in experimentation.…”
