Efficacy of Turmeric (Curcuma longa), Containing a Known Level of Curcumin, and a Hydrated Sodium Calcium Aluminosilicate to Ameliorate the Adverse Effects of Aflatoxin in Broiler Chicks

Abstract: A 3-wk feeding study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of turmeric (Curcuma longa) powder (TMP), containing a known level of curcumin, and a hydrated sodium calcium aluminosilicate (HSCAS; Improved Milbond-TX, IMTX, an adsorbent, Milwhite Inc., Houston, TX) to ameliorate the adverse effects of aflatoxin B(1) (AFB(1)) in broiler chicks. Four pen replicates of 5 chicks each were assigned to each of 7 dietary treatments, which included the basal diet not containing TMP, HSCAS, or AFB(1) (control); basal diet… Show more

“…AFBO production was affected by CYP450 and high affinity of this compound for binding to DNA and RNA that causes to damage to DNA and create carcinogens [36] . Control the gene expression of CYP450 1A5 can help to reduce damages to DNA, which was observed in all treatments and of course with the higher capacity and efficiency in L. and Tox® groups.…”
