Because of the poor clinical response to Haemophilus influenzae-mediated otitis media (20), it is unlikely that empirical clindamycin use will be advised for patients with otitis media, however. Evaluation of the novelty of the putative macrolide efflux determinant(s) in S. pyogenes and S. pneumoniae awaits the cloning, sequencing, and functional analysis of the requisite genes.…”
