A study was conducted to find out the ameliorating effect of dietary Mycosorb (esterified glucomannan, EGM) in experimental aflatoxicosis of broilers. For this purpose 270 number of day-old Anak 2000 chicks were procured and divided into 6 equal treatment groups. A control ration (T 0 ) was prepared with conventional feedstuffs and an experimental diet (Tx) was prepared from this ration after incorporating aflatoxin (AF) @ 300 ppb produced on rice using Aspergillus flavus: NRRL 2999 strain through fermentation technology. From T x three rations were prepared by mixing Mycosorb @0.025 per cent of feed (T x M 1 ), 0.50 per cent of feed (T x M 2 ) or 0.10 per cent of feed (T x M 3 ). A positive control diet (T 0 M 2 ) was prepared by mixing Mycosorb @ 0.5 per cent in the control ration. All 6 diets were fed to the respective groups for a period 42 days. Significantly (P<0.05) reduced level of serum cholesterol and serum protein levels were observed in aflatoxin-alone fed group; whereas increase surge of glucose, triglyceride and activities of serum enzymes viz., serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase, serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase, alkaline phosphatase were recorded in the aflatoxin-alone fed group. However, the increased parameters were corrected to normalcy when Mycosorb was added in the contaminated diet, particularly at 0.1 per cent level. The study showed an ameliorating effect of dietary Mycosorb during experimental aflatoxicosis.

The present study was designed to investigate effect of Oxalis corniculata (Creeping wood sorrel) against aflatoxicosis in straight run broiler chicken (Hubbard strain). Hundred and twenty-day old broiler chicks were randomly divided into six groups with two replicates. Two different levels of O.corniculata (250; 500 mg/kg b.w) with and without AFB1 (350 ppb) and a control treatment were added to the diet. Dietary treatment initiated at the end of 1 st week and sustained for six weeks. O.corniculata supplementation in the diet during five weeks significantly reduced body weight, cumulative feed intake and feed conversion ratio of the treated groups in dose dependent manner. Dietary incorporation of O.corniculata 250 mg to 500mg induced negative effects on overall broiler health performance. An experiment was conducted to study the effect of Mycosorb (esterified glucomannan-EGM) on nutrient retention in aflatoxicated broiler chickens. Day-old chicks (n=270, 50±5 g) were divided into 6 treatment groups, containing 45 numbers in each for 6 weeks. A control ration was prepared with conventional feedstuffs and an experimental diet was prepared from this after incorporating aflatoxin B1 @ 300 ppb. From the experimental diet, 3 rations were prepared by mixing EGM at graded levels i.e., 0.025, 0.05, or 0.10 per cent. The control ration was mixed with EGM, @ 0.05 per cent and maintained as a positive control. A balance trial of three days duration in the 6th week was conducted for determination of nutrient retention. There was a significant reduction in dry matter, ether extract, protein, calcium and phosphorus due to aflatoxicosis except on crude fibre. However, the improvement was noticed after the incorporation of Mycosorb. It could be concluded that the maximum benefit of nutrient retention was obtained at the high dose, i.e., 0.10 per cent.
