“…In our study, E2 compared to other equilibration times has resulted in significantly higher post-thaw sperm PM, RV, VAP, VSL, VCL, STR, LIN, SV-PMI, MMP, and V-IACR. Similar to our results, some studies have reported improved post-thaw sperm STR and LIN with 4 h equilibration time in buffalo (Kumar et al, 2015) and cattle (Celeghini et al, 2008;Leite et al, 2010). Tuli et al (1981) have also reported higher sperm motility in buffalo with 4 h equilibration compared to 2 and 6 h equilibration times.…”

“…We can summarise that the greatest sperm activity during the entire test was for extenders containing egg yolk (P<0.05-0.01). Bioxcell was also used in the study of Celeghini et al (2008), who reported the same conclusions -that the other extenders which they evaluated were significantly better than Bioxcell. A contrary finding by Stradaioli et al (2007) that Bioxcell achieved significantly (P<0.05) better results was not confirmed in our observation.…”

“…Use of these extenders is recommended because of their excellent protection of sperm cells (Celeghini et al 2008). Nevertheless, the use of egg yolk as a cryoprotectant has recently been restricted in some countries for reasons of hygiene risk (Thun et al 2002).…”

“…The integrity of plasma and acrosomal membranes, as well as mitochondrial function, were evaluated using a combination of propidium iodide (PI), fluorescein isothiocyanate conjugated Pisum sativum agglutinin (FITC-PSA), and 5,5' ,6,6'-tetrachloro-1,1' ,3,3'-tetraethylbenzimidazolcarbocyanine iodide (JC-1) fluorescent probes, respectively (CELEGHINI et al, 2008). A total of 200 sperm cells were examined per slide and classified according to the fluorescence emitted by each probe: IPIAH = intact plasma membrane, intact acrosomal membrane and high mitochondrial function (represents the "viablecell" percentage in samples); IPIAL = intact plasma membrane, intact acrosomal membrane and low mitochondrial function; IPDAH = intact plasma membrane, damaged acrosomal membrane and high mitochondrial function; IPDAL = intact plasma membrane, damaged acrosomal membrane and low mitochondrial function; DPIAH = damaged plasma membrane, intact acrosomal membrane and high mitochondrial function; DPIAL = damaged plasma membrane, intact acrosomal membrane and low mitochondrial function; DPDAH = damaged plasma membrane, damaged acrosomal membrane and high mitochondrial function; DPDAL = damaged plasma membrane, damaged acrosomal membrane and low mitochondrial function.…”
