Drilling muds with less environmental impact are highly desired over conventional diesel-based mud systems, especially in light of the emerging strict environmental laws. In this article, a novel oil-in-water (O/W) emulsion drilling fluid formulated with a methyl ester extracted from Indian mango seed oil was evaluated. The effect of the weight percent of different constituents of the emulsion/suspension including the oil phase, bentonite, and polyanionic cellulose polymer on the rheology and the fluid loss was examined. The methyl ester oil phase/mud system displayed superior physical, chemical, rheological and filtration properties relative to the diesel and the mango seed oil. Eco-toxicity of the methyl ester and diesel (O/W) emulsion mud systems was assessed using the acute lethal concentration test. The Indian mango methyl ester (O/W) emulsion mud displayed much less impact on fish population. Flow characteristics collected from the flow model at 85 °C suggested excellent shear thinning behavior of the Indian mango methyl ester (IMME) (O/W) emulsion mud. Moreover, the IMME (O/W) emulsion displayed strong pseudoplastic behavior, an attractive feature in a drilling mud, with increasing clay content and polymer concentration. The methyl ester mud was thermally stable over a wide range of the constituent concentrations. Furthermore, a particle size analysis revealed that engineered drilling muds targeting suspension of particles with certain size range can be formulated by changing the volume fraction of the methyl ester in the mud system.

Integer partition plays an important role in different fields like graph theory and number theory. This paper comprises different properties of the integer partition-based graphs. These properties give an idea about the structural properties like degree of the vertices. Furthermore, topological index of the graphs is considered as a transformation of a chemical structure into an integer number. We discussed two very important indices, namely, harmonic index and Randic index, for these particular graphs.

Rheological and physicochemical analysis of non- edible oils used for biodiesel production

The knowledge of the physicochemical and rheological flow characteristics of biodiesel feedstock is used for quality control in production, storage and transportation processes. Moreover, the knowledge is applied in redesigning and optimizing facilities that can be used for manufacturing, storage and transportation of the fuel. Non-edible oils analysed in the present study were Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL), Castor Oil (CO), croton megalocarpus oil (CMO), podocarpus usambarensis oil (PUO) and Thevetia peruviana oil (TPO). Free fatty acid, acid value, saponification value, peroxide value, iodine value, specific gravity and moisture content were determined by following the recommended Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) methods of analysing physicochemical characteristics. Physicochemical results show that all the selected non-edible vegetable oils with an exception of CNSL, do not require any further treatment. However, due to high Free Fatty Acid (FFA) content in CNSL, direct biodiesel production from the feedstock would be a challenge hence further treatment to reduce the acidity of the feedstock is essential. Rheological flow parameters were analysed using VT-550 Thermo Haake Viscotester monitored by a Rheowin Job manager. The pre-set parameters in the Viscotester were the shear rate and temperature. The shear rate was increased uniformly from 5 𝑠−1 –100 𝑠−1 in 60 seconds at 30-60˚C. Regardless of the analysis temperature, all oils exhibited Newtonian flow behavior, indicating that the viscosity of the oil remained uniform at a constant temperature. The experimental data were fitted into rheological models: Newton, Bingham, Oswald de Waele (power-law), and Herschel Bulkley using Rheowin data evaluation software. The results revealed that Newton and Oswald de Waele models were appropriate to represent the flow behaviour of the oils with the fit of R2 ≥ 0.990.
