Injected fish at 32°C had lower blood glucose and higher chloride levels than fish at 20°C.…”

“…The only perturbation to tilapia chloride levels during this study occurred in fish acclimated to 12" C for 5 weeks. Plasma chloride levels have been found to be slightly higher in 12" Cacclimated fish compared to those acclimated to 10,20 and 32" C (Umminger & Gist, 1973), but the opposite was found in largemough bass acclimated to 10 and 23" C (Carmichael et al, 1984). These conflicting data are representative of the literature and illustrate why no general mechanism has been proposed which can account for both decreases and increases in electrolytes of fish exposed to cold temperature.…”
