Effects of Seed Priming with Zinc Sulfate on Nutritional Enrichment and Biochemical Fingerprints of Momordica charantia

Abstract: Zinc is an essential element for plant growth and development as it plays an important role in various metabolic processes with nutritional enrichment. The treatment with zinc sulfate is also economic. Momordica charantia is an economically important medicinal plant reported for a range of pharmaceutical and pharmacological properties. In this study, nutripriming with zinc sulfate (0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3% solution) was applied to M. charantia seeds to optimize better dose. Based upon seedling establishment, 0.3% … Show more

“…Singhal and Bose (2021) found that seed priming with a combination of Mg(NO3)2 and ZnSO4 salt was superior to single salt and non-priming treatments for improving wheat crop qualities under drought stress. Bukhari (2021) supported our findings that Zinc Sulphate outperformed the control group regarding germination, emergence, and growth. 2014) demonstrated that treatment with certain pesticides, including phorate, carbosulfan, and chlorpyriphos, led to significant increases in rice plant growth 15-30 days after planting.…”

“…For example, in a study, the magnetic feld was applied for the manipulation of plant cell metabolism, resulting in an improvement in antimicrobial activity, plant growth, and phenolic contents of M. charantia [5]. Similarly, in another study, for the development of food crops with improved pharmaceutical and nutritional values, ZnSO 4 was used for the seed priming of M. charantia [9]. Previously, diferent types of chemicals, plant growth regulators, and vitamins have been investigated to get better agronomic yield [27].…”

“…Previously, diferent types of chemicals, plant growth regulators, and vitamins have been investigated to get better agronomic yield [27]. Despite their successful fndings, these chemicals were not found to be very efective in their regular application in developing countries (e.g., Pakistan) [9].…”

“…Dehydrogenation of guaiacol was monitored for the quantification of peroxidase activity (Malik and Singh, 1980 ; Bukhari et al, 2021 ). To prepare crud enzyme extract, a fine powder of frozen leaves (100 mg) was taken in 1 ml Phosphate buffer solution (PBS) (pH 7.0).…”
